Sliip+ is a sleep assistant designed to help people experiencing sleep difficulties achieve better rest. With seamless voice integration with Google Home and a dark visual interface, users can easily control the app in dark bedroom settings by speaking or using the app's calming dark theme.

Objective

In early 2017, Amazon started selling their first voice assistant, Alexa Echo, and triggered a wave of skill developments among various companies. With Sliip+, we investigated how voice and visual user interfaces can complement each other.

Creating mockups and wireframes for the native app (GUI), defining voice commands and dialogues for the Voice Interface (VUI), ensuring consistency between GUI and VUI

Problems and Solutions

Relationship between GUI and VUI

We had a mismatch between the design of GUI and VUI, both structurally and conceptually. This was because we worked on both user interfaces independently, which made it difficult to create a unified user experience.

To ensuring they complemented each other effectively, we aimed for a holistic design approach, considering both the VUI and GUI aspects of the product. This involved making compromises when necessary to accommodate contextual differences between VUI and GUI

Dark Mode Color
Contrast

Ensuring a clear visual hierarchy in dark mode interfaces to guide users' attention effectively.

We tried to implement a visual appearance where elements differentiate in color, contrast and size to create a visual hierarchy that highlights the most important information.

Result

Sliip+ is a native app that combines a dark visual interface with a smart voice interface to deliver an optimal environment for sleep settings. With its unique dark mode theme, characterized by hues of purple and blue, we have created a unique and recognizable visual identity.Please note, the project only represents the Graphical User Interface, as the voice interface was difficult to capture in written form.

Facts

The course » Voice Based Apps«, led by Christian Wendrock-Prechtl, was supported by Google Hamburg. The company Google, as the developer of Google Home, supported us in the realization with workshops on topics such as user interviews, user tests, and technical aspects of VUIs.
